WHY: 왜 분산클라우드인가?

The customer retains responsibility for their part of the operation but cannot leverage the capabilities (such as the skills, innovation pace, investments and techniques) of the public cloud provider. Distributed cloud, the next generation of cloud computing, retains the advantages of cloud computing while extending the range and use cases for cloud.
기존에는 클라우드 서비스를 이용할 때, 클라우드 서버의 성능을 향상시키는 것이 불가능했습니다. 하지만 클라우드 컴퓨팅의 다음 세대인 분산 클라우드는 클라우드의 사용 범위를 넓힐 수 있고, 기존 클라우드 서비스의 장점도 유지할 수 있습니다.
WHAT: 분산클라우드는 무엇인가?
With packaged hybrid offerings, public cloud services (often including necessary hardware and software) can now be distributed to different physical locations, for instance, the edge.
Public Clous Service(Azure, AWS, GCP…)가 커지면서, 세계 곳곳에 Data Center(수많은 서버들을 한대 모아 네트워크로 연결해 놓은 시설)들이 생기게 되었습니다. 따라서 Public Clous Service들이 서로 다른 물리적 장소들로 분산되게 되었죠!
VALUE: 가치
- 각 서비스 이용자의 위치에 따라 물리적으로 가까운 데이터를 선택함으로, latency가 줄어들고 속도가 더 빨라지고, 네트워크와 관련된 risk(위험)도 줄어들었습니다! 이렇게 위치를 자유롭게 선택할 수 있다는 것은 특정 지역의 법적 규제에 제한 받지 않을 수 있고,
- Public과 Private 클라우드를 함께 관리하고, 함께 확장이 가능합니다.
FUTURE: 다음 세대
- 기업 고객들이 클라우드 substations을 구매해서, 하이브리드 클라우드를 보장하고, latency와 연관된 문제들을 해결하는 like-for-like hybrid를 구성합니다.
- 다음 세대 클라우드는 유틸리티들, 대학들, 시정부들, 통신 시스템들을 구성하고, 클라우드 변전소(substation)이자 그 클라우드를 이웃들이 사용하게 열어놓은 모든 것들을 연결할 것입니다. 이것은 클라우드 변전소(substation)가 모든 곳에 존재한다는 가정 하에 동작할 것입니다. (Wi-Fi 핫스팟 처럼요!!)
CHALLENGES: 주의할 점
- How much of the public cloud capabilities will be available on the distributed cloud substation? While this is not definitional to distributed cloud, it is a factor in deciding what flavor of distributed cloud will be necessary — fully distributed or partially distributed.
- What custom scenarios for distributed cloud substations will emerge?
- If distributed cloud substations are opened to near-neighbor companies, who pays for the increased bandwidth necessary for effective operation and how will it be paid?
- Must a distributed cloud substation always be connected, or can it operate with variable connectivity?

Using Phase One like-for-like hybrids without sacrificing cloud value propositions will enable real hybrid cloud computing. Thus, distributed cloud not only ushers in a next generation of cloud in Phase Two, but it also helps build a firmer foundation for hybrid as it exists today.
